It is not easy to build a Bugatti Chiron which is capable of reaching a speed of 304 miles / hour (489 km / hour).
Indeed, in its standard version alone, the Chiron is already one of the most capable cars on the planet.
However, Bugatti still has to re-engineer a number of components in order to achieve this top speed record.
In order to explain how much effort it took to convert a normal Chiron and build the Chiron Super Sport 300+, Bugatti compiled a list of every new or replaced component.
The many changes they made are testament to the long and extreme struggle that the hypercar manufacturer had to go through in order to break the top speed record.
The jump from the standard Chiron to the Chiron Super Sport 300+ was almost as significant as the switch from the Veyron to the Chiron in 2016.
Bugatti claims to spend a lot of time perfecting the aero Chiron Super Sport 300+.
"Only the perfect inflow of air at the front of the car can prevent harmful turbulence, and ensure that the airflow around the car remains clean," said Bugatti Deputy Design Director Frank Heyl.
With the front aero tuned to perfection at over 300 mph, Bugatti turned their attention to the rear of the car.
The tail of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ is 25.0 centimeters longer than the regular Chiron.
This helps control downforce and lift at the rear of the car to have a small breakaway area.
The engine now uses a 3D-printed titanium exhaust, plus a larger and more efficient turbocharger.
The result is a final output of 1,587 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque.
According to Bugatti, "All four turbos now use compressor wheels, which have been increased in size from 74 to 77 millimeters to allow for higher throughput."
"Meanwhile, the turbine wheel grew from a diameter of 64.4 to 67.2 millimeters, to provide more compressor power needed to increase the thrust pressure."
The Chiron Super Sport 300+ is indeed an engineering marvel.
The extreme journeys Bugatti took in their quest for a max speed of over 300 miles per hour were what the hypercar was built for.
Bugatti is also included in the ranks of the fastest hypercar in the world.
