Drag slick tires need to be 'heated' before starting Drag racing to get optimal traction / grip. That's why Drag cars that wear slick tires always do 'burnout' at the beginning of the track.

Old 'burnout' was different per brand tires; Essentially, slick drag tires should not be too hot, and should not be too cold.
