He was the first NASCAR car driver to win $ 1 million, the all-time NASCAR winner with a score of 200, a pole position of 127 and 27 wins in a single season. He also won Darktona 500 times between 1961 and 1981, and became the NASCAR national racing champion in 1964,1967,1971,1972,1974,1975 and1979.
In 1959 Richard raced in the first Daytona 500, which his father had once won. But his car brake broke down after crossing 20 miles. Nevertheless he performed quite well in the subsequent races until he was elected Man of the Year candidate. He raced until 1992 ..
